The Oddball Dice Series #9

For the next two weeks, I will make daily posts where I’ll spotlight unusual or lesser known dice that I have in my collection that I hope are interesting for everyone to see and learn about. Each day I’ll cover a different theme, I hope you enjoy this series.

Dice & Games Randoms

Chessex has the PoD randoms, but I firmly believe that D&G also had weird random dice that they tried out or never made as full sets and then maybe put in the Crystal Caste Jingle Bones bags or distributed to the public in some other fashion.

Some of these may actually exist as full sets or may have been sold as full sets at some point in the past, but these are colours that aren’t at all familiar to me and that I have personally not come across as full sets.

Swirly red and silver dice that may or may not exist as full sets. These don’t match any of the Dragon Bones, Treasure Chest or other Crystal Caste commemorative sets I’m aware of. The würfelsammler.de database lists these are a test colour.

Swirly d6, d10 and d20 in a black-silver colour combination. I believe full sets of these exist, but not sure what brand/name they were sold under. They look pretty much as if they tried to do a Dragon Bones Series 2 Black variant.

Swirly d20s in colour combinations that seem unusual and that I’ve not seen official releases of: white-copper and green-gold.

Black d10s with fairly minimal white swirling on one side of each die. I suppose one could argue they are oddly mixed Chessex Rainbow Onyx, but Rainbow Onyx has more translucency than these and the swirling is more homogenous and not just one side of the die, which is what makes me believe they are not that. (I had six of these at some point and they all looked pretty much the same. Rainbows tend to show a lot more variation between dice.)

Green d6 with yellow-golden swirls. They look very different from any of the Dragon Bones or commemorative releases or Gold Mist/Ancient.

An odd opaque orange d20 with a dirty black paint effect. I can’t be 100% sure that it’s not something that someone hand-painted at home, but it seems more like something that was factory-made this way, mainly for the fact that the black paint isn’t easily scratched off like you would be able to with regular acrylic paint and that the weathered paint effect looks pretty uniform as if produced by a mass tumbler.

A whole bunch of more unusual opaque D&G colour combination, as well as blue and neon yellow glow-in-the-dark dice in the D&G mould. These are all cute and I’d love to have full sets of them. The glow-in-the-dark ones make me wonder if other colours also exist.

Several different D&G mould glitter dice in unusual colours not normally seen, some of them as pips and a d30. I’ve only ever seen a full set of the purple ones once, but not the other colours. I have a d4, d6 and d10 in purple and all except the d6 and d8 in green. I’d love to complete those two sets. Let me know if you have more of these and would want to trade.
